Shadows and Ashes

Sunflowers cannot look to the heavens any longer,

so they turn to each other.

Poor substitute for true flame,

for only shadows dwell here,

and ashes.

Poor imagine

of the fire,

burn away like hyacinths.

The light goes out.

The candle drowns in its martyrdom.

In remembrance of the sun, it weeps.
