Growing Up
As a lad
I had a plan.
Was going to be somebody.
Going to do something.
Get somewhere,
and
Higher.
Dawns
swallowed my dreams.
Seasons
stripped me of my hopes.
Time
took away my plans.
And pressure of survival
Made me trade away ambition.
Growing up
was a losing battle
against
time
age
and nature.
And now I can say:
A grown man
is a man defeated.
