Data mining enables corporations and government agencies to analyze massive volumes of data quickly and relatively inexpensively. The use of this type of information retrieval has been driven by the exponential growth in the volumes and availability of information collected by the public and private sectors. This book provides an overview of data mining activities of the U.S. Government that focus on national security. Agencies covered are the Department of Homeland Security, Department of the Treasury, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and Department of Justice. A special section has also been compiled on "All Source Intelligence" which is a method used by investigative and intelligence agencies to data mine large volumes of publically available information.
